NED vs WI, 3rd ODI: Kyle Meyers, Shamrah Brooks Steer Netherlands to clean sweep West Indies 3-0

Kyle Meyers and Shamar Brooks both scored maiden One Day International centuries as West Indies won their series 3-0 against the Netherlands on Saturday, winning the final match by 20 runs in Amstelveen.

Meyers (120) and Brooks (101 not out) put on 184 runs for the second wicket as West Indies posted 308 for five in 50 overs.

The Dutch batsmen worked hard with half-centuries for openers Max O’Dowd (89) and Vikramjit Singh (54) but could not chase down the target as they fell 20 runs short.

became part of the series World Cup Super League from which the top eight will automatically qualify for the next World Cup.

West Indies are fourth behind Bangladesh, England and Afghanistan While the Netherlands remains in 13th place.

West Indies openers won the toss and decided to bat first.

Shai Hope, who scored a century to guide West Indies to victory in Tuesday’s opening match, scored 24 off 43 balls, which only ended when he hit a slog off Bass de Leede and hit it at mid-off. Catch was given to Vivian Kingma.

Meyers, however, was doing well at the other end and when Brooks joined him, the pair put on 184 for the second wicket in 29 overs.

Meyers was in particularly destructive form, scoring 120 off 106 balls and hitting seven sixes and eight fours.

There was some change in the innings when he dismissed De Leede at the midwicket boundary in the 41st over.

Brooks, who was moving smoothly, could add just 18 runs in the next 19 balls.

At the other end, Nicholas Pooran, Brandon King and Akeel Hossein all fell cheap as the Dutch bowlers were glued to their guns.

However, Brooks took West Indies past 300 and the 33-year-old from Barbados scored his maiden ODI century in the final over of the innings.

The Dutch responded well with another decent start from their openers Singh and O’Dowd, who added 98 runs for the first wicket.

Singh’s 54 came off 55 balls and was replaced by the busy Musa Ahmed, who played an inning of 42. O’Dowd, however, struggled to get the ball away, with 121 deliveries in his 89.

That left a lot for the lower order to do in the last overs.

West Indies travel from Amsterdam to Pakistan for a further three-match ODI series in Multan.

The Dutch will face England and Pakistan in Super League games at home in June and August respectively.
