Nearly 4,000 new covid cases reported in Mumbai, a spike of 1,000 in a day

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said 3,671 new coronavirus cases were reported in Mumbai on Thursday, an increase of 46.25 per cent over the previous day. He said the test positivity rate in the financial capital was recorded at 8.48 per cent.

While the new daily spike was the highest since May 5, no new deaths were recorded in the city.

The State Health Minister, during a briefing about the COVID situation in the State, urged the people to follow COVID-appropriate behaviour. He said, “I urge everyone to avoid crowding and follow the guidelines to avoid infection. School students (15-18 years) should be taken to vaccination centers in batches. This will result in higher rates of vaccination. ” He said that the schools in the state will not be closed yet.

Tope said, “Around 4000 cases were reported in Mumbai today. Today’s positivity rate is 8.48%. SGTF kit should be used to differentiate between Omron and Delta plus variants. Vaccination campaign should be done at full speed, Everyone should be fully vaccinated.”

Maharashtra witnessed a sharp rise in fresh Covid cases on Thursday as the state reported 5,368 fresh cases, a jump of 1,468 over Wednesday’s tally. The state recorded 1,193 recoveries and 22 deaths today, taking the active cases to 18,217. The number of Omicron cases rose to 450, with the state recording 198 such cases on Thursday.
