NDDB will manage the Assam government’s Vamul for the next five years. Vadodara News – Times of India

Vadodara/Anand: Assam government has expanded the management of West Assam Co-operative Milk Federation (Vamuli) by Anand Headquarters National Dairy Development Board (nddb) for a further period of five years.
When NDDB took over its management in 2008, WAMUL was on the verge of closure. Considering the impact of NDDB’s intervention in restoring and reviving the dairy cooperative, the State Government of Assam has approved a further extension of the management of WAMUL to NDDB.
An agreement to this effect was signed on Friday by NDDB Interim President Minesh Shah after meeting Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati.
“The Chief Minister showed keen interest in adopting innovative methods through gender-ordered semen and embryo transfer techniques to develop dairy infrastructure and increase the productivity of milch animals.
He expressed hope that the intervention of NDDB will protect the interests of rural milk producers of Assam and bring much needed change in rural households,” said a release issued by NDDB.
Shah also met Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Border Area Development, implementation of Assam Accord, Cooperation Atul Bora and discussed various aspects of dairy development.
WAMUL currently procures an average of 41,000 kg of milk from 13,916 dairy farmers. The brand ‘Purabi’ markets around 64,000 liters of milk per day.
Even when the market was adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, WAMUL posted a sales turnover of Rs 120 crore in the financial year ended March 31, 2021.
