NCERT Textbook Row: Dates Cannot Be Erased From History, Says Farooq Abdullah

National Conference President Farooq Abdullah said on Saturday that even if the government tries to remove the chapters of the Mughal period from the school curriculum, dates cannot be erased from history. Addressing the media, Farooq Abdullah said, “Dates cannot be erased from history. How can you forget Mughal rulers like Shah Jahan, Aurangzeb, Babur, Akbar and Jahangir?”

“They ruled the country for 800 years. No one can forget that. When the public goes to see the Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri, Red Fort and Humayun’s Tomb, what will you tell them? These monuments are recognized as international heritage. So no matter how hard the government tries, it cannot change history,” he said. Earlier, National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) director Dinesh Prasad Saklani had clarified that chapters on Mughals were not ‘dropped’ from CBSE textbooks, and said it was a “lie”. That’s a lie. The Mughals have not been spared. Last year there was a rationalization process as there was pressure on students everywhere due to COVID,” NCERT director told ANI.

Along with this, the History of Mughals in Empires is being taught in Section-2 of the 11th class book and there were 2 chapters on the history of the Mughals in the 12th class book, of which theme nine was removed last year, while theme eight Still students are being taught. No chapter has been removed from any book this year. done with political intent.

“The politically motivated decision to remove certain chapters and sections from NCERT textbooks is not only a denial of history but also objectionable. Historical facts cannot be discarded by cutting what is inconvenient to them from the textbooks. It is clear that Such measures are aimed at completing the saffronisation of textbooks.” (ANI)
