NCB Officer Involved in Aryan Khan Drugs-on-cruise Raid Dismissed from Service in Separate Case

According to a report, SP Vishwa Vijay Singh has been removed from the NCB in an unrelated case and not as part of the probe involving Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan.

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has sacked Superintendent of Police (SP) Vishwa Vijay Singh, who was part of the team that raided the drugs-on-cruise in Mumbai in 2021. Bollywood son of superstar shahrukh khan Aryan Khan and others, the report said on Monday.

An unnamed official told the publication that Singh had already been suspended since April last year while an investigation was being conducted by the NCB regarding his conduct. An inquiry into an unrelated matter related to misconduct was recently completed, following which it was decided to dismiss him from service.

While NCB Director General Satya Narayan Pradhan has confirmed the report, Singh declined to comment. “The matter is pending with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA),” he added.

A separate vigilance probe was conducted in the Cordelia raid, which ended in November 2021, following allegations against the Mumbai team of the NCB, including former zonal director Sameer Wankhede. As a result, departmental action was initiated against the seven officers. However, the findings of the investigation have not been disclosed to the public.

On October 2, 2021, Aryan Khan and several others were arrested by the NCB on charges of drug possession, consumption and trafficking stemming from the raid on the Cordelia cruiseship at Mumbai’s International Cruise Terminal. However, in the charge sheet filed by the agency in May 2022, Aryan Khan and five others were not named due to insufficient evidence.

Former zonal director Sameer Wankhede Wankhede, who was later transferred from the NCB, led the team that included Singh and some witnesses that raided the ship off the Mumbai coast. Based on the WhatsApp chats, the Wankhede team claimed that the accused were part of a larger drug conspiracy, alleging that Aryan Khan was in touch with foreign drug suppliers and that the chats mentioned “hard drugs” and “huge quantities”.

Khan was granted bail on October 28, 2021 after the Bombay High Court rejected the NCB’s claims of a larger drug conspiracy on the basis of insufficient evidence.

Following the allegations against the Mumbai team of NCB, a separate vigilance probe into the raid ended in November 2021. As a result, departmental action was initiated against the seven officials. However, the findings of the probe have not been disclosed to the public, said the HT report.

Result

According to reports, the NCB constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Deputy Director General Sanjay Kumar Singh to re-probe the raid. The SIT found several irregularities in the raid and did not find evidence to suggest that Aryan Khan was involved in a larger drugs conspiracy or an international drugs smuggling syndicate.

Wankhede was transferred to the office of the director general of taxpayers’ services in Chennai.
