Nawaz Sharif’s party has denied his return to Pakistan till his full recovery

Pakistan’s opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif has denied the return of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to the country until his “complete recovery”, saying his brother could legally stay in the UK as long as the British Immigration Tribunal home. The office does not decide his appeal against the refusal. Extend his visa.

Sharif, 71, convicted in two corruption cases in Pakistan, has been living in London since November 2019, when the Lahore High Court allowed him to travel abroad for four weeks for medical treatment.

According to reports from London, the UK Home Office has rejected Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz supremo’s application for visa extension with right of appeal.

In a statement issued on Friday, PML-N President Shahbaz, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, said that the Imran Khan government had decided to give Sharif treatment on the basis of the report of the government’s own medical board, Dawn newspaper reported. was allowed to leave Pakistan.

“It is inhuman to do politics on the health of a three-time prime minister. The government machinery is bent on defaming Sharif for his politics, which is bringing disrepute to the country.

Regarding his elder brother’s return to the country, Shahbaz said: “Nawaz Sharif will return to Pakistan only when he is fully recovered and doctors in London will allow him to travel (back to the country).”

He said that he can legally stay in the UK till the decision on his appeal regarding the visa extension is taken.

The appeal was filed before the Immigration Tribunal on Thursday.

PML-N vice-president and Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz said the visa issue has once again proved how her father Khan was on the minds of members of the government.

“This fake government has accepted its defeat from Nawaz Sharif who is the present and future of Pakistan. By targeting a huge personality, a pygmy’s stature cannot be exaggerated,” she tweeted.

The request for extension of stay was filed with the UK Home Department on medical grounds on the advice of his doctors.

“This is a routine procedure for those who want to extend their stay in the UK and Sharif has the right to appeal to the immigration tribunal,” PML-N Information Secretary Maryam Aurangzeb told reporters.

He said Nawaz Sharif’s health had deteriorated during his stay in the custody of the National Accountability Bureau and the Prime Minister Khan-led government, insisting that medical reports and tribunals had said they could not treat his illness in Pakistan. Can.

“Even Imran Khan had confirmed all these facts after an inspection by the doctors of his trusted Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital. After fulfilling all the legal requirements, the provincial and federal governments sent Nawaz Sharif abroad for treatment.

He insisted that the party supremo would not seek political asylum in Britain, as he could legally remain in the UK until the immigration tribunal’s decision on appeal.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Information Farooq Habib said the “fugitive and fugitive” was living in London with an expired Pakistani passport and the PML-N leadership was in a sleepless night after the UK refused to extend the visa on medical grounds. Went.

“You [Sharif] In addition to several cups of coffee and visits to Hyde Park, have eaten enough pizza and watched polo matches in London. Now it’s time to return home,” he said.

The minister said Sharif did not come to Pakistan even though his personal doctor had already returned from London.

Legal experts say the coronavirus pandemic has led to a huge backlog of cases in the immigration tribunal and it may take a year or more to decide Sharif’s case. He is expected to remain in the UK till such time.

Sharif, convicted in two corruption cases – Avenfield properties and Al-Azizia Steel Mills – was declared a proclaimed offender by the Islamabad High Court in December 2019 after he failed to appear in connection with other cases against him.

In 2018, an accountability court in Pakistan sentenced Sharif to 10 years for having assets disproportionate to his known sources of income and one year for not cooperating in the investigation of the Avenfield case.

In the same year, he was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption case, where illegal investments were detected. All the sentences were to run concurrently.
