Navjot Sidhu says Congress MLAs can ‘wet their pants’ to police, DSP serves defamation notice

New Delhi: In Punjab, state Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu praised the two party members and alleged that they were able to make policemen wet their pants.

Apart from facing criticism for his comments by former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Shiromani Akali Dal, a Chandigarh police officer sent a defamation notice to Sidhu.

“I have sent him a defamation notice to humiliate the police,” PTI quoted Chandigarh Deputy Superintendent of Police Dilsher Singh Chandel as saying.

At a rally in Sultanpur Lodhi, Sidhu pointed to sitting MLA Navtej Singh Cheema saying he could “make a ‘sho’ (policeman) wet his pants”. He reiterated his need to add fuel to the fire by praising local leader Ashwini Sekhri at a rally in Batala on Sunday.

When reporters asked him about his remarks, Sidhu said it meant to say that the Congress “reserves the right” and should not be taken literally.

A video clip making Sidhu’s comment went viral on social media. Amarinder Singh said that it is sad that men in uniform are being insulted.

“Sad to see the humiliation of our jawans in uniform. 1700 jawans of Punjab Policeind sacrificed their lives to bring the state out of the dark days and now they are being mocked by @INCPunjab leaders and all their President. Shameful. ! A leader must be respected. To earn respect,” Amarinder Singh tweeted.

SAD’s Daljit Singh Cheema questioned Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s “silence” on Sidhu’s remarks.

Chandigarh DSP Chandel termed Sidhu’s remarks as “shameful”. In a video message, DSP Chandel said, “It is very shameful that such a senior leader uses these words for his own strength and humiliates him. It is the same force that protects him (Sidhu) and his family.” protects.”

He even challenged Sidhu to return his force deployed for his protection. “Without the (security) force, not even a rickshaw puller will listen to him,” he said.

“I strongly condemn this remark and he (Sidhu) should not use such words for his force. Force has its own dignity and honor and it is our responsibility to maintain this dignity,” he said.
