Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister, Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday said that narcotics worth over Rs 50 crore seized by the police are being destroyed in all districts.
“Today we are destroying narcotics worth more than Rs 50 crore as per court order. Bommai further said that the authorities have gathered new information by breaking the dark web, on the basis of which many raids have been conducted and international players involved in these activities have been arrested.
According to officials, the drugs were being destroyed today as per the prescribed procedure, and they were confiscated during the last 12 months.
He said that during 2020, a record 4,066 cases were registered under the NDPS Act, leading to mass seizures and 5,291 arrests.
Destroyed drugs include hemp, poppy seeds, brown sugar, opium, heroin, charas, cocaine, MDMA powder, MDMA tablets, amphetamines and LSD strips.
The Home Minister appreciated the swift action of Bengaluru Police in nabbing the five accused involved in the murder of former BJP councilor Rekha Kadiresh.
