Dismissing the idea of banning AI-powered chatbots, Narayana Murthy said it would test the smartness of the youth in using ChatGPT to craft compelling articles and answers.
ChatGPT has been the talk of the town for the past few weeks. Its characteristics are among the many reasons that are being discussed in all fields. From solving any human queries to completing assignments and clearing medical and engineering exams, there is hardly anything that ChatGPT cannot do. However, teachers fear that students will use this AI tool to cheat on tests and homework, and this will also lead to loss of their critical thinking. However, Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy feels that banning ChatGPT in schools or colleges is not a good idea.
Murthy says he came to know about ChatGPT a few months back through his son. He believes that the chatbot, which has taken the internet by storm, is going to prove to be very useful in increasing the knowledge of the people. Infosys founder dismisses the idea of banning AI-powered chatbots, saying it will test the smartness of youth in using ChatGPT to craft compelling articles and answers.
“Well my son introduced me to ChatGPT several months ago and it’s a very powerful tool for people to add knowledge and I think it’s going to be very, very useful. This whole thing about banning ChatGPT in university is not a good idea because the test will be how many compelling arguments, very compelling articles, very compelling answers our young people are able to make in using Chat GPT,” he said in an interview. I told the Economic Times.
Murthy also believes that technology should be embraced with open arms as it will make the country a beneficiary. In the years to come, it will change the way a student does his exams or academic work.
“We will move to the next grade where ChatGPT will become a part of student’s life but then the teachers will have to modify their stand to differentiate between answer A and answer B in that grade. Today we are in the lower grade. So, I strongly believe in these techniques and I think you should adopt it whole heartedly and India There will be a beneficiary,” he added in the interview.
ChatGPT, an OpenAI product, was launched in November last year. According to the official website of OpenAI, the model interacts in a conversational manner and the dialogue format makes it possible for the chatbot to answer follow-up questions.
