New Delhi, Aug 4: Members of the Delhi Congress and the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on Wednesday took out a candle march at Jantar Mantar to protest the alleged rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl in the city. Holding candles, protesters demanded justice for the minor and slammed the BJP-led central government over the rise in crime rate in the national capital.
The girl died under suspicious circumstances, even as her parents alleged that she was raped and forcibly cremated by the priest of the crematorium. The Delhi Police on Wednesday transferred the case to the Crime Branch, officials said.
IYC National President Srinivas Biwi said that all possible help should be provided to the victim’s family. According to a party statement, the Delhi Congress under the leadership of its president Anil Kumar took out candle marches in all 70 assembly constituencies of the city.
Kumar said that Congress will not keep silent till the culprits are not given death penalty. Congress has demanded a fast track court hearing for speedy disposal of the case and death penalty for the culprits.
