Nandankanan Zoo closed for visitors after 2 wild elephants entered the zoo

There is a growing threat of wild elephants at Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar as two of them have entered the zoo. Considering the situation and for the safety of the visitors and the animals, the zoo is temporarily closed for the visitors. The staff of Nandankanan and Chandka Wildlife Circle have been deployed to rescue the elephants safely. However, the State Botanical Garden remains open to the public as usual.

The Chandaka Forest Division and the zoo staff have deployed teams to drive away the wild jumbos from the zoo’s boundaries. According to the information received, on Tuesday night, two elephants entered the zoo premises after breaking the enclosure near Daruthenga.

ACF Sharat Chandra Behera said that “Zoo will remain closed today for the safety of the visitors and animals. We have formed two teams to keep a close watch on the movement of the tuskers. The teams will begin their mission to drive away the animals. Hopefully we will be able to successfully carry out the operation at night.”

Anticipating any untoward incident, the management officials of the park have decided to temporarily close the zoo to ensure the safety of the visitors and the animals inside the enclosure.
