Brutal exploitation of housewives due to family disturbance. It has been alleged in Panihati that phenyl has been forcibly put on the face of the housewife. The finger of blame is against Nanad and other members of the in-laws’ house. The victim Ratna Dutt is currently admitted in Sagardutt Medical College Hospital in Kamarhati. A written complaint has been lodged with the police on behalf of Ratna Devi’s father’s house. Police is probing the incident.
It is learned that Ratna was married 12 years ago to Bappa Dutt in New Colony of Panihati. Since then the in-laws are harassing Ratna Devi. During this, Ratna Devi’s husband lost his job during the lockdown in the country. Then the atrocities escalate. It is alleged that during last Tuesday’s unrest, the in-laws forcibly put phenyl on Ratna Devi’s face. Ratnadevi alleged that her niece and niece’s daughter grabbed her and forced her to put phenyl in her mouth. Ratna Devi’s father-in-law and mother-in-law were standing next to her at the time of the incident but they did nothing.
Ratnadevi complained, ‘Nanda and her daughter come home on Tuesday. Since my husband did not have a job, I asked Nanda to arrange a job for him. Then Nand and his daughter started beating me. Then they forced me to put phenyl in my mouth. Though father-in-law and mother-in-law were standing, they did nothing to stop Nanda. My husband came running from the terrace as soon as I shouted. In this incident Ratnadevi’s sister said, ‘Since marriage, the in-laws used to harass the sister. They want to kill my sister. We want justice.
