Nagpur Minor lured with ‘selling virginity’ to help with mother’s cancer treatment; 3 arrested

Police on Thursday rescued an 11-year-old girl from an apartment in Koradi, where the girl was allegedly lured to sell her virginity for Rs 5,000. Police arrested three women who had arranged for a ‘client’ for Rs 40,000 and promised financial help to the poverty-stricken family of the minor.

According to a report in Times of India, the customer turned out to be a police informer. Sources reportedly said that the girl needed money for the treatment of her mother, who is suffering from cancer. At the same time, the police is verifying the claim.

The report quoted sources as saying that the accused persuaded the minor to accompany him and do his bidding and promised him Rs 5,000.

Police arrested Archana Vaishampayan, Ranjana Meshram and Kavita Nikhre, who were arrested by the social service wing of the crime branch after getting information from an NGO.

According to the police, the accused Vaishampayan and the minor’s mother knew each other. The minor’s mother voluntarily sent her daughter to work as a governess for Vaishampayan’s two-year-old son.

Vaishampayan had taken the minor girl to an apartment on the pretext of taking care of his son during his birthday celebrations. The report said Mesharam had rented the apartment where a client was to be brought in for a minor.

It said that the customer turned out to be a police informer. The accused Meshram and Vaishampayan have been arrested earlier on charges of prostitution in separate cases. Sources said that the two had a friendship in jail.

The rescued girl child has been sent to the government shelter home by registering a case at Koradi police station.
