The development came after the Indian Army said on Sunday that the investigation into the killings of civilians in Nagaland was progressing at a rapid pace and all efforts were being made to complete it at the earliest.

“We have taken notice of people to come forward and assist us in the investigation by providing any information, including videos, photos or any other material from original sources, and would be grateful for that,” the military said in a statement.

“The Indian Army deeply regrets the loss of lives during the December 4 incident in Mon district, the loss of lives is truly tragic and unfortunate,” the statement said.

According to reports, six civilians were immediately killed and two were seriously injured in the ambush.

After the incident came to light, the villagers ran to search for the missing miners and their bodies were found. In retaliation, the villagers attacked the local armed forces and in the ensuing shelling, seven more civilians and a jawan were killed.
