Nagaland assembly will now be one without any opposition

Now the government will be formed in Nagaland without any opposition. A resolution to this effect has been passed by all concerned parties, including the BJP, which is in alliance with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s NDPP.

In the 2018 assembly elections, the BJP along with the NDPP formed the government under the name People’s Democratic Alliance and the Naga People’s Front assumed the position of major opposition.

These parties decided to unite in the assembly to find a solution to the long-standing demand of Naga political issues.

Therefore, it was now decided to form an opposition-less government with the NDPP and the BJP, as well as two independents supporting the PDA government, with a new nomenclature Nagaland United Government (NUG), which would now include the NPF.

Neiphiu Rio will remain the chief minister.

A common minimum program has been drawn up which is suitable for all parties in the NUG.

It has been decided that everyone will work together so that Naga peace talks can be held in a positive manner and a solution can be found at the earliest.

All political parties will strive towards unity and reconciliation and request the Government of India to work out an amicable solution acceptable to all at the earliest.

The recently concluded session of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly has unanimously passed a five-point resolution.

On June 11, the Nagaland government announced that they would constitute a parliamentary committee comprising 60 legislators and two MPs from the state and tasked with resolving the crisis in the region and playing the role of a facilitator. In a decades-long conversation.

The first meeting of this committee was held in Dimapur in July, where the core committee members appealed to the Naga insurgent groups to join the peace process and start talks to help find a political solution at the earliest without any preconditions. Was.

The Naga Peace Accord was signed on 3 August 2015 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi between the Government of India and the NSCN to end insurgency in Nagaland. Nagaland Governor RN Ravi, NSCN President Isaac Chishi Swu, along with President and General Secretary Thuingleng Muivah were also interlocutors of the Naga peace talks on behalf of the Government of India.

It is worth noting that recently the Chief Minister of Nagaland has made several requests to the central government to resolve the Naga issue and met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Shillong on 24 July.

During the all-party meeting ahead of the start of the monsoon session of Parliament, the NPF Rajya Sabha MP also requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to resolve the border issues at the earliest.
