Naba Kishore Das Death: ASI Accused of Killing Odisha Minister Confesses Crime, Dismissed From Service

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police has dismissed ‘mentally unstable’ ASI Gopal Das from service after he allegedly confessed to shooting state health minister Naba Kishore Das. He was arrested from Brajrajnagar. ADG (Crime Branch) Arun Bothra said the assistant sub-inspector was arrested after his “confession” during preliminary interrogation. The accused ASI has accepted his crime. We will bring him on remand to find out the purpose of further questioning.

He also denied reports that the ASI had earlier worked as the late leader’s personal security officer. Jharsuguda district SP Rahul Jain dismissed the policeman from service, officials said. He was posted at Gandhi Chowk Chowki of Brajrajnagar police station.

Meanwhile, the crime branch in a statement said that the case registered against ASI Das under section 307 of the IPC and section 27(1) of the Arms Act has been changed to that of section 302 (punishment for murder) of the IPC. Case has been registered under. ,

Officials said that during investigation, the crime branch team recovered one 9 mm pistol (service revolver), three live cartridges and a mobile handset from the accused.

He said the viscera samples of the deceased BJD leader have been preserved for further chemical examination. The 60-year-old minister breathed his last on Sunday evening, hours after he was shot dead by a policeman in Brajrajnagar, where he had gone to attend a function.

The ASI is believed to be suffering from mental disorder.
