Naba Das Murder Case: Police Recover Handwritten Notes Written by Accused ASI

The crime branch said the recovered pieces of handwritten papers would be sent to forensic and handwriting experts for reconstruction of evidence and further investigation.

The preserved viscera of the deceased has also been sent to State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL), Rasulgarh at Bermuda Biological Station for Research (BBSR) for chemical examination and opinion.

Scientific officers and ballistics experts also recovered a bullet during an inspection of the vehicle and crime scene using the FARO 3-D scanner. A medical team led by DSP and CID crime branch in Berhampur is verifying the medical treatment records and financial dealings of the accused.

The team is also interrogating people related to the accused to ascertain the petition filed by him.

The crime branch said that the elder brother of the accused was also questioned in this regard. Crime Branch further informed that Additional Director General of Police and CID Crime Odisha are camping at the spot. He is personally monitoring and supervising the investigation of the case. Naba Das was the Health and Family Welfare Minister of Odisha since 2019.

He was a three-time MLA from Jharsuguda constituency and was considered an influential leader of the region. Minister Naba Das was shot at Brajrajnagar in Jharsuguda district and died at Bhubaneswar hospital on Sunday. During the operation, it was found that a bullet had entered and exited the body, hitting the heart and left lung and causing massive internal bleeding and bruising.

The Odisha government has written to the Odisha High Court, requesting a sitting/retired high court judge or district judge to supervise the Crime Branch investigation into the murder of Health Minister Naba Kishore Das, as the accused is a police personnel.
