Mysore: The organs of a youth who was declared brain dead were harvested and donated to help save the lives of five others.
19-year-old Sharat Kumar, who had met with an accident on his birthday on December 23, was brought Spandana Hospital In Mysore, The next day he was shifted to Apollo BGS Hospital and was put on life support system. Sharath, on his way home, was killed and two of his friends when they were hit by a car driven by a constable in Malavalli town.
He was declared brain dead on 26 December. Hospital officials said tests confirmed he was eligible to donate his organs. The hospital authorities advised Sharath’s parents on organ donation and they agreed to donate their son’s organs. The girl’s heart, kidney, pancreas, liver and cornea were cut at Apollo BGS Hospital. Simultaneous kidney, liver and pancreas were transplanted. While one kidney of Sharath was transplanted to a patient Apollo BGS Hospital, Mysore, another was taken to INU, Bengaluru. His liver and pancreas were donated to two patients and heart at Apollo BGS Hospital, Mysore Colombia Asia, yeshwantpur, in Bengaluru, and donated to the cornea Mysore Eye Bank,
