Mysuru: A lookout circular has been issued by the city police to trace the ‘missing’ foreign nationals.
As per the records about two dozen civilians have not been traced. While some have stayed longer, others have not renewed their visas and passports. Attempts to trace these citizens from countries like Iran, Iraq, Somalia, Tanzania Yemen And Ukraine has been vandalized by the police.
in total 33 foreigners Mysore have been living longer or their passport has expired. Of these, 11 including children have been traced. A foreign national was arrested and remanded to judicial custody on drug charges, while some others have given valid reasons for delay in renewal of their passports. The rest are still not known.
The move to trace the foreigners comes after a Congolese national who was arrested for drug trafficking in Bengaluru allegedly died in police custody.
Mysore City Police Commissioner Chandragupta confirmed to TOI that foreigners residing in Mysuru on study, work or tourist visas are being verified.
“A lookout circular has been issued for 22 people who have not been traced and their details have been shared. Foreigners Office Regional Registration Officer (FRRO), airport authorities and our counterparts in other states. He may have left the country,” he said.
Foreigners are registered in Bengaluru and their details are shared with the local police.
“It is difficult to keep track of them as they move from place to place. Though there is an option to update their records online, some have not done so,” said a police officer.
Meanwhile, police inspectors have been directed to verify the details of all foreign nationals in their respective districts. Yoga teachers and landlords are being asked to provide details of foreign nationals.
