Silverwood was later appointed by Sri Lanka. Cricket (SLC) to be their head coach and he has since plotted Australia’s defeat in the ODI series, and is now planning to upset the Cummins-led side in two Tests in Galle.

Sliverwood has said that he is an “enthusiastic scribbler” and had taken notes on Australian batsmen from the Ashes, and that knowledge would come in handy in plotting Sri Lanka’s victory.

“I keep notes on everything. I’m an avid scribbler, so I get my notes on Australian batsmen from the Ashes. I’m not going into the Ashes too much… but whatever knowledge I can bring from there And bring my own people, I will,” Mirror.co.uk quoted Silverwood as saying.

Silverwood, acknowledging that he had a tough time in Australia during the Ashes, said that Sri Lanka’s 3-2 win over the Kangaroos in the ODI series was “very satisfying”.

‘I felt like a finger spinner today’: Legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal shines in ‘tough’ conditions

“I had a cold winter over in Australia. They are a very difficult team to beat in their own backyard. So it was very satisfying to win (ODI series) here (in Sri Lanka), but what was more satisfying for me was the progress of the team that has made it this journey so far.

“Just to see the strategy put together, to see the runs in the middle, to see how we have chased the total. One of the most exciting things is that we are still nowhere near the potential that we have in that team, yet we are still growing one of the best teams in the world. It’s very exciting and we still have a lot more to do.”
