“It took some time to get into the momentum but the last two series were good but there is definitely room for improvement,” he said.
“I am really happy with the way I am timing the ball. I am sure the team has learned a lot in the last one year which will help us move forward.”
Mandhana has made a comeback after a stellar performance in the Women’s Big Bash League, where she scored a scintillating century. During the tour of Australia, he also scored a high-quality century in the pink ball Test, apart from scoring two fifties in the limited overs leg.
With a lot of cricket under his belt in the last nine months, the stylish opener finds himself well in mind ahead of the ODI World Cup in New Zealand in March-April.
“After Covid, I had to work hard to get my momentum back. It was getting tough to play back to back matches but we have played a lot in the last six months and that is a good sign. The body also feels ready ( After a long time) game time).
“As a batsman you have to be selfish to be more consistent and that is something I want to work on, regularly closing the game especially tight finishes.
“It’s something we all know we need to work on because it will help us in the World Cup.”
India have lost ODI series to South Africa, England and Australia since March but Mandhana feels the team has got the best of preparations for the World Cup. India will also play New Zealand before the World Cup.
“The last one year has been very important for us, especially in England and Australia. world Cup. We have learned a lot in the last two series.”
Of the three series, Australia was the closest match in which India lost 1–2.
“The Australia series was good, although the results did not go our way. Almost all the matches were decided in the last over and those were the matches we could win or lose.
“Though we lost three series, they acted as a good preparation for us going into the World Cup. We were able to score more than 250 in two of the three matches. Will take all positives from that. I also did a lot. Learned Australia,” he added.
