Like a chain reaction in Karnataka, tensions between religious communities are rising. In the beginning there was hijab, then saffron shawls, temple business and mangoes were sold. During this difficult time, a ray of positivity and hope has emerged in Chamarajanagar district.

P Rahman, a resident of Chikkahole in Chamarajanagar district, is a retired gate operator in the Chikkahole reservoir. In 2018, a few months before his retirement, an idol of Ganesha went missing from a small temple nearby. Rahman had seen the temple and the idol for years because it was close to the reservoir on which he worked.

Police and people searched for the idol but it was not found. One night, Rahman had a strange dream where Lord Ganesha appeared before him and ordered him to build a temple. Startled, he woke up. Somehow, he was unable to erase the dream from his head.

He soon retired and used his retirement and gratuity amount and built a small Ganesh temple in the same village but at a different place.

“I retired in 2018 and then Ganesh came into my life. As Allah is for us, so Ganesha is for others. Everyone’s blood is red, I don’t understand the difference here,” Rahman said after visiting the temple.

He has appointed a Hindu priest to perform daily pujas and rituals and has given him a salary of Rs 4,000 from his pension.
