Muslim law board calls Uniform Civil Code unconstitutional and anti-minorities

The All-India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has opposed the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) terming it unconstitutional and anti-minorities. The board has called the move an attempt by the Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and central governments to divert attention from the current issues of inflation, the economy and unemployment.

This comes at a time when the Himachal Pradesh government is examining the possibility of introducing a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has said.

The AIMPLB’s comment came just a few days after Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said that the state was planning to introduce a Uniform Civil Code.
