Nitish Bhushan, Head of Central Operations, Uber India and South Asia, said in a statement, “Uber is increasing the trip fares in Mumbai by 15 per cent.

App-based taxi firm Uber on Friday said it has increased fares for travel in Mumbai by 15 per cent to offset the impact of rising fuel prices.

Diesel and petrol prices have increased by Rs 6.40 per liter between March 22, when they were hiked after a gap of 137 days, and by 80 paise per liter on March 31.

Nitish Bhushan, Head of Central Operations, Uber India and South Asia, said in a statement, “Uber is increasing the trip fares in Mumbai by 15 per cent.

He said the hike in fares was to “help cushion” drivers from the impact of the hike in fuel prices, adding that “we hear feedback from drivers and understand that the current increase in fuel prices is a cause for concern.”

In the statement, the online taxi service also said that in the coming weeks, it will continue to track fluctuations in fuel prices and will take more steps “as needed”.
