Mumbai: Special court rejects police plea for cancellation of bail to MP Navneet Rana, her MLA husband Ravi Rana | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: A special court on Monday rejected the police plea seeking cancellation of bail granted to Navneet Rana, an independent MP from Amravati in Maharashtra, and her MLA husband Ravi Rana citing violation of conditions.
The Ranas were booked and arrested by Khar police station officials on April 23, for alleged offences of sedition and breach of harmony for declaring their intention to chant the Hanuman Chalisa outside Matoshree, the personal residence of then Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, in Bandra (east).

The couple was granted bail on May 4. Imposing several conditions, special judge Rahul R Rokade had also said, “The applicants shall not address the press (print or visual media) on any of the subjects which relates to this case.”
In a reply to the police plea, submitted and argued by advocate Rizwan Merchant, the couple had said they were law-abiding citizens. They said they had not spoken about the case.

The reply further sated that the prosecution had failed to disclose as to when and to whom the statements attributed were made.
“The respondents deny having made any statement to the media pertaining to this case. The respondent had gone through an ordeal of being in judicial custody for 12 days and had narrated the ordeal. Thus, the respondents have not breached any condition,” the reply said.
