Mumbai Police is on high alert and security has been beefed up across the city for the 10th and last day of immersion of Ganesh idols on Sunday, especially in view of the recent arrests of terror suspects, an official said.

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad on Friday arrested a man from Mumbai in connection with an alleged terror conspiracy unearthed by the Delhi Police.

The ten-day Ganesh festival will conclude on Sunday. The celebrations have been cut short this year due to restrictions imposed in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Processions identified on the days of immersion have been banned.

Mumbai Police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner of Police S Chaitanya said on Saturday, anti-sabotage measures are being taken and security has been beefed up around important installations.

He said that apart from intensive patrolling in sensitive areas, there would be heavy deployment of security personnel at the immersion sites.

He said that additional lights, cranes, swimmers/life guards, ambulances and fire brigade teams would be arranged to deal with any eventuality.

The DCP said that 100 additional officers and 1,500 personnel from local arms and other branches would be deployed.

In addition, at least three companies of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), one company of the CRPF, 500 home guards and 275 constables from outside units will be stationed in the city.
Police are also keeping a watch on known criminals and have increased surveillance at hotels, lodges, important establishments and sensitive places.

The police spokesperson said that the officials held meetings with Ganesh mandals, peace committees, mohalla committees and other stakeholders.

A terror module was busted by the Special Cell of Delhi Police on Tuesday, in which six people were arrested, including two terrorists trained from Pakistan. Police claimed that one of them was a resident of Dharavi in ​​Mumbai.
