MUMBAI: A five-year-old boy lost on crowded Santacruz streets in Mumbai during the arrival of Ganpati idols on Wednesday was rescued by a police beat constable.
Two hours later, the boy was reunited with his parents who were looking for him.
The child is a Punjab resident and was visiting his relatives in Nirmal Nagar, Khar East.
He got separated from his parents while on an outing.
Around 6.30pm, head constable Ashfaq Qazi was patrolling on his bike when he spotted the boy sobbing on a pavement at Golibar Road.
He inquired with his child where his family was.
But the child continued to sob and couldn’t answer properly.
Qazi then took the child on his bike and started making rounds of the area, looking for his family.
He also contacted local masjids and temples and requested them to make announcements on loudspeakers about the kid.
He also informed his colleagues at the Vakola police station.
Around two-and-half hours later, Qazi received a phone call from Vakola police station where the boy’s parents had landed up looking for him.
Around 8pm, the child was reunited with his family.
