A massive network racket was unearthed in the city on Monday with the arrest of 10 people who leaked exam question papers for government jobs in several states and skilled ‘solvers’ were sent in place of candidates for competitive exams, including NEET. According to investigators, the 10 arrested people are members of two groups perpetrating this fraud, who were willing to pay their fees between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 50 lakh depending on the nature of the examination.
Police said the latest question papers of Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) for constable posts were recovered from men and question papers of Indian Coast Guard and Rajasthan Public Service Commission have also been compromised. Several admit cards, over Rs 9 lakh in cash and two cars have been recovered.
According to investigators, the network has been active in Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, UP, Bihar and West Bengal for more than two years. Police said the accused would extort Rs 30 lakh from a candidate for taking solvers for NEET and Rajasthan Electricity Board exams. Additional DCP (Noida) Ranvijay Singh said that on Monday, 10 accused had gathered at Triphala Park in Noida to discuss HSSC exam questions. “Some of the admit cards prepared by them which their ‘solvers’ will carry for this exam have also been recovered. We have been asked to prepare for Rajasthan Electricity Board Exam, SSC and Non-Technical Multi-Tasking Exams conducted by Indian Coast Guard. The arrested people have been identified as Umesh Kumar Tatwar, Lakhan Singh, Abhinav Kumar, Virendra Yadav, Like, Satnam, Sunil Kumar, Jitendra Yadav, Mahipal Yadav and Vikas Sharma. A police officer said that they belong to two different groups which work in tandem with each other and similar fraudsters are active in other parts of the country. Umesh is from Bhojpur in Bihar and Lakhan, Mahipal and Jitendra are from Rajasthan’s Alwar. Virendra is from Rajasthan’s Sikar, Layak is from Jaipur and Abhinav is from UP’s Gorakhpur. Satnam hails from Charkhi Dadri, Sunil from Rewari and Vikas from Jhajjar, all in Haryana.
“Umesh was involved in receiving question papers and arranging solvers in Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. He is also associated with many other gangs. Abhinav, Layak and Virendra did the same. Satnam, Sunil and Lakhan find solvers. For examinations conducted by government bodies in Haryana and Rajasthan,” said AC (Noida) Rajnish Kumar.
Singh said that the police is searching for the mastermind. “There were many people in contact with the arrested persons and we are yet to ascertain from where they got the question papers and how many candidates they provided solvers,” the additional DCP said.
Based on their investigation so far, the police believe that the number could be anywhere between 25 and 50.
