Sources said Aparna, who contested and lost the 2017 election from Lucknow Cantonment, is likely to get a chance from the state capital’s Bakshi Ka Talab constituency, as the cantonment is ‘crowded’. Sources said the BJP is also planning to join hands with some new alliance partners like Bihar CM Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United), though the party announced on Tuesday that it would go it alone in the UP elections.
Sources said that though the discussions were at an initial stage, there were also plans to involve another party from Pratapgarh region.
Potential candidates for Bundelkhand, Braj and Kanpur regions were discussed during the third and fourth phases of the meeting.
Sources told TOI that the deliberations on the candidates for the Awadh region, including the assembly seats of Lucknow district, are likely to take place on Wednesday. The issue of candidates from Lucknow took an interesting turn after BJP’s Lok Sabha member Rita Bahuguna Joshi’s son came out in the open to demand a ticket for Mayank Joshi. She was clear in asking for a ticket even at the cost of her Lok Sabha membership.
He is in the fray for his son from Lucknow Cantonment seat, where the list of candidates is getting longer by the day.
According to sources, if it is decided to field ministers in direct elections, then Deputy CM Dinesh Sharma is being pushed from the same seat. Similarly, Dr. Mahendra Singh, who was a councilor from this assembly, can also be in the fray.
The sitting MLA Suresh Tiwari is already asking for tickets from here and Reshu Bhatia, daughter-in-law of Lucknow Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia, is also asking for tickets from here.
BJP leaders have not been able to give ticket to any candidate from Lucknow. Till now, Om Prakash Srivastava, former Director of Balrampur Hospital Dr Rajeev Lochan, BJYMO Vice President Vikas Srivastava Baba, former MLA Late Suresh Srivastava’s son Saurabh Srivastava, loyal BJP workers Anjani Srivastava and Santosh Srivastava, who switched allegiance to join BJP Was. Congress is also among the probables.
Similarly, speculations are being made on the names of candidates from Lucknow North and Bakshi-Ka-Talab seats. After the discussion on Awadh region, the party can discuss the candidates of Purvanchal region.
