Mukesh Kumar’s Domestic Teammate Calls Him ‘Like for Like Replacement’ for Mohammed Shami After Six-Fer Against Bangladesh A

According to his former teammate, Mukesh Kumar’s stupendous performance against Bangladesh A could open up a new vista of opportunities, especially a call-up to the Indian team. The Bengal pacer bowled brilliantly as he picked up figures of 6/40 India A bowled out Bangladesh A for 252 on the first day of the second ‘unofficial Test’.

Mukesh has been a revelation for the India A team since he made his debut in the series against New Zealand A as he took five wickets during that series as well.

Speaking on his performance, Shreevats Goswami, who has seen him from close quarters, while playing for the Bengal Ranji team, even said that he could be a ‘like-for-like’ in place of Mohammed Shami.

“Fantastic performance with the ball once again by @ksmukku4 picking up a 6fer. This will certainly make him the top contender to replace @MdShami11 for the Test match, unless the selectors decide otherwise.

Shami’s fitness has come under scrutiny after being ruled out of the Bangladesh tour with a hand fracture. Meanwhile, his injury comes on the heels of Bumrah’s injury which ensured he missed the all-important T20I World Cup 2022.

So Mukesh Kumar has every chance to make it big, but as Goswami said, it depends on whether the selectors pick him first or not.

Coming back to the warm-up match, Kumar found good support from senior pacer Umesh Yadav (2/55 in 16 overs), who practiced well for the two-Test series starting December 14 in Chattogram.

Off-spinner Jayant Yadav, who disappointed on the final day of the first ‘Test’, also took two wickets.

At stumps, India A were 11 for no loss.

It was Umesh who made the first breakthrough with an inswinger (outswinger for the left-hander) to get rid of Shadman Islam, who was caught in the slip cordon by Sarfaraz Khan.
