Deepak Chahar attempts to run out Vijay Shankar at the non-striker’s end, MS Dhoni gives a cheeky smile

Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni smiles as he tries to run out his teammate Deepak Chahar at the non-striker’s end against Vijay Shankar during IPL 2023 Qualifier 1 between CSK and GT.

Both the teams were going to face each other for a place in the IPL 2023 final on May 23 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. An incident in the match got the fans talking as Chahar attempted to run out Shankar at the non-striker’s end.

The incident happened in the 13th over of the match, when Chahar was trying to dismiss Mankad and catch Shankar, but the Gujarat Titans batsman was inside the crease.

Shankar was just about to leave the crease when the CSK pacer twisted his wrist and tried to take the bails, attempting a controversial dismissal. While Chahar didn’t complete his run-up, it ended up being a friendly warning to the batsman who was on alert for the same.

Watching the incident happen from behind the wickets, CSK skipper Dhoni couldn’t help but give a cheeky smile reacting to Chahar’s antics.

As it happened, CSK would go on to win the match by 15 runs to reach their 10th IPL final, with Chahar playing a role in dismissing Mohammed Shami. The CSK pacer had suffered an injury earlier this season and while attempting to take the wicket of the GT tail-ender, Chahar ran wide and completed the catch but was seen fidgeting after a while.

Although speaking after the end of the match, he allayed any fears of a suspected hamstring injury as he said he is fit and fine and is looking forward to the IPL 2023 final on May 28.

When Chahar was asked about his fitness, he said, “Everything is fine, one more to go.”
