MS Dhoni came out to bat in the last over against Delhi Capitals and scored 5 runs off 4 balls.

Chennai Super Kings batting coach Michael Hussey gave an update on Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s fitness during their Indian Premier League match against Delhi Capitals on Saturday. Dhoni, who is at the fag end of his career, is playing the current IPL with a knee injury. He has been seen limping on several occasions. The veteran wicket-keeper was also seen with an ice pack on his knee after matches.

Hussey also confirmed that Dhoni is not 100 per cent fit with his knee injury, which is one of the reasons why he is batting lower down the order in the last two-three overs.

“His knee is not 100% at the moment (on MS Dhoni), so he is handling himself, coming in to bat in the last 2-3 overs. Hussey told the broadcasters after CSK’s innings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium that he hasn’t been able to run like he did during his heyday, but he is doing things right and is hitting the ball really well.

Dhoni came out to bat in the last over against Delhi Capitals and scored 5 runs off 4 balls.

Meanwhile, Devon Conway (87) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (79) set the stage for Chennai in a crucial match for their play-off chances.

Both of them hit fours and sixes on the difficult pitch of Kotla. Delhi bowlers were punished for deviating from their length.

Batting coach Hussey was impressed with the batting of Conway and Gaikwad and suggested that 223/3 would be a good score on the Delhi surface.

“If you asked me whether you would take 223 at the start, I would cut my hands. Good job by Ruturaj and Conway, it’s a good score on the board, but we have to bowl well,” Hussey said.

Talking about Pith, the former Australia batsman said, “People who have played me told me it is the best wicket they have played so far this season, but it slowed down because of the softness of the ball. “

While he also said that Gaikwag and Conway complement each other as the left-right combination also works in their favour.

“They have a special relationship (on Ruturaj and Conway), complement each other well and also bring in the right-left arm angle, the pairing has worked well for us,” he added.
