MS Dhoni may not be the batsman of his heyday anymore, but his captaincy continues to be praised
Chennai Super Kings finished ninth among 10 teams during IPL 2022, a forgettable season that saw them register just four wins from 14 attempts.
When teams like Sunrisers Hyderabad have gone in for major changes after unfavorable results, CSK kept faith with most of their players ahead of the IPL auction in December last year.
Cut to IPL 2023 and CSK are second on the points table having won six out of their 11 matches so far. The faith seems to be paying him rich dividends.
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri believes it is because of the ‘foresight’ shown by him M S Dhoni Ho believes in poor performers that they will eventually turn out well.

Shastri said, ‘He (Dhoni) is a master of making combinations.’ on ESPNcricinfo, “It’s instinctive. It’s understandable. Probably sticking with a guy who might not be good in 2022 but has the foresight to believe he’ll be great in 2023, he has the foresight to believe in 2022.” Will assure that he goes through the pieces with forward thinking, and he’s done that with some players. I wouldn’t be surprised. I’m not in the mix there, I don’t know but certainly he thinks in that fashion.”
CSK, however, bought Ben Stokes, Kyle Jamieson and Ajinkya Rahane during the mini auction. While Stokes and Jamieson are dealing with fitness concerns, Rahane is making a revelation.
Shastri feels CSK are very settled and look like a team that is destined to make it to the playoffs.

“When you look at this side that now looks almost certain to make the playoffs, and looks extremely dangerous when it comes to the playoffs, two matches in Chennai, this is a team that can go the distance . Because it’s already decided. If tampering is happening then it will be due to injury. Otherwise, they’ve got it right,” he said.
CSK will face Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders at home before flying to the national capital for their final league match.
