Jabalpur: A government university in Madhya Pradesh has discovered a delicious alternative to fodder and cattle feed in the form of chocolate, which will help increase milk production and improve the fertility rate of cattle. An official gave this information on Friday. After two months of research, Nanaji Deshmukh University of Veterinary Sciences, Jabalpur has prepared chocolate containing multivitamins and minerals for cattle, which can be an alternative fodder if there is no green fodder, said University Vice Chancellor Professor SP Tiwari.

He said that the university would soon supply these chocolates to farmers across the state with the help of the state veterinary and animal husbandry department. Tiwari said that the university plans to transfer the chocolate production technology to veterinary graduates who are willing to open a start-up unit for chocolate production.

Chocolate will increase milk production, fertility enhancement and conception rate in cattle. He said that it is rich in vitamins and proteins. Cattle can eat the chocolate as it is, and it can be served with other feed, he added. Each piece of chocolate weighs around 500 grams and is prepared from ingredients traditionally used in cattle feed such as mustard cake, rice polish, jaggery, starch, lime powder and common salt, Tiwari said, Each piece will cost Rs 25.

He said that the university has designed wooden molds for the production of these chocolates and so far 500 pieces have been prepared. Tiwari said that the university has written a letter to the state government and as soon as it gets the green signal, the product will come in the market.
