Kotwali police station assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Kamlesh Katare said the theft took place in the house of a policeman working in Chhattisgarh, while his family lives in Bhind city.

According to the police, the thief left behind a letter which read, ‘Sorry friend, compulsion was there. If I had not done this, my friend would have died. Don’t worry, I’ll return it as soon as I get the money.”

The policeman’s wife and children had gone to a relative’s place on June 30 and when they returned home on Monday night, they found that the locks of the rooms were broken and the belongings were scattered, the official said.
