Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday spoke to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan about the flood situation in the state.

Chouhan told the PM that so far more than 2000 people have been rescued safely. The Chief Minister also informed the PM that the officials of the flood-affected districts are on alert.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the army was called in for rescue operations in Shivpuri, Sheopur, Gwalior and Datia districts.

Defense aircraft were pressed into service to evacuate people from some of the flood-affected villages of Shivpuri.

However, due to heavy rain and bad weather in the district on Tuesday, the aircraft could not take off for rescue operations.
