Even though the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government has accepted all the demands for the return of farmers on the borders of Delhi for political interests. Despite this, the political equations of Punjab are indicating that even after the end of the agitation, the path of BJP is not easy.

In the Kisan Andolan, Punjab’s biggest vote bank farmers have seen dire times on the Delhi border for more than a year. Government has suffered oppression on body and mind. In such a situation, it will not be so easy to get its effect out of the mind and heart of the farmer vote bank.

The intention of BJP is clearly visible behind withdrawing the Agriculture Act and accepting all the demands of the farmers. Assembly elections are going to be announced in Punjab next month in the new year and the BJP wants to take advantage of the abolition of agricultural laws and accept all the demands of the farmers in the elections. In the politics of Punjab, BJP is trying to establish its base by entering on its own. However, farmers will not get out of that mental and physical agony so soon.

Efforts to cross the Styx with the help of Captain

In Punjab, the BJP is taking the help of Captain Amarinder Singh to cross its Vaitrani by making its entry. Captain is the only person who not only fully supported the farmers while being the Chief Minister but also helped in transporting the farmers from Punjab to the borders of Delhi. Captain did not help the Center during his reign in Punjab to lift the toll plazas under the central government or the railway tracks, wherever the farmers staged a pucca dharna in protest against the agricultural laws. This is the reason why toll plazas are still closed in the state. Once the trains were closed for months, the Railways had refused to run trains in Punjab. Goods trains were started on the assurance of smooth railway operation by the state government when the crop season and supply of many commodities including coal were affected.

New equations made from Amarinder’s new party

Now Captain Amarinder Singh has separated from the Congress and has formed his new party in Punjab. In such a situation, BJP is now trying to take advantage of the Captain in Punjab. Several rounds of talks have been held to jump into the election by making an agreement with the Capt. Now in Punjab, the BJP and Captain Punjab along with other dissidents have started agreeing on seat-sharing. In this equation, Captain is the only person who openly supported the movement as the Chief Minister in the Congress government. After leaving the chief minister’s post and Congress, he has also played an important role in getting the agricultural laws repealed by going to the BJP’s side. Now the BJP is in the process of encashing this penetration of Captain in the elections.

Captain will handle BJP city and rural areas

After forming a separate party, there has been an internal agreement between the Bharatiya Janata Party and Captain Amarinder Singh. According to that agreement, the Captain will focus on rural areas. BJP will find Aadhaar in urban areas. It will be exactly like what the BJP had in agreement with the Akalis. Even during the agreement with Akali Dal, BJP had only seats in urban areas. All the seats in the rural areas were under the control of the Akali Dal. This is also being done because the peasant movement belonged to the villages and originated from the rural areas. Captain has given full support to the farmers’ movement, the biggest vote bank of Punjab. The planning is that only the Captain will be able to easily manage this vote bank in the elections.

In the hearts and minds of farmers, the image of Modi as an arrogant king

The central government canceled three black laws of agriculture, also withdrew the cases registered against the farmers, but for a year sitting on the Singhu border has made Modi’s image as an arrogant king in the hearts and minds of the farmers. The very first word that comes on the farmers returning from the Singhu border is that they have bowed the head of the arrogant king. It was said about it that he does not take back the decision once taken, but the farmers also bowed the head of the arrogant leader and got his decision cancelled. It is true that the BJP is trying to encash the decisions taken in favor of farmers in Punjab, but perhaps its timing has gone wrong. The government is a little late in taking the decision. Had this decision been taken earlier, by now the BJP’s base would have been formed in Punjab.
