Most inspirational person I have met: Virat Kohli pays heartfelt tribute to AB de Villiers on retirement

Former Captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore Virat Kohli Heartfelt tribute to his good friend AB de Villiers on his retirement from all forms of cricket. The illustrious Kohli-de Villiers pairing was involved in several memorable partnerships for RCB in the Indian Premier League. Modern-day stalwarts of the game share great camaraderie off the field. De Villiers announced his retirement on social media on Friday.

Kohli took to Twitter to pen a heartfelt note for the former Proteas captain and described him as the most inspirational person ever.

“The best player and most inspirational person of our times I have met, you can be very proud of what you have done and what you have given to my brother RCB. Our bond is beyond sport and always will be,” Kohli wrote on Twitter.

The former RCB captain supported ABD’s decision to retire from cricket.

“It hurts my heart but I know you have made the best decision for yourself and your family as always. I love you @ABdeVilliers17,” he said.

The great South African batsman also replied to his special friend: “Love you to my brother.”

Flamboyant Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who also played IPL With de Villiers in the RCB camp in 2021, Twitterati paid tribute to the cricketing legend.

“Glad I got to share the field with one of the greatest players of all time and a wonderful human being!! Changed cricket forever #legend,” wrote Maxwell.

IPL 2021 was the last tournament where de Villiers played before retiring. His team Royal Challengers Bangalore were knocked out of the playoff stage as they failed to win their first IPL trophy.

In 340 T20Is, he scored 9424 runs at an impressive average of 37.24. Meanwhile, in his 14-year long IPL career, ABD scored 5162 runs in 184 matches, including three centuries and 40 half-centuries.
