Kalpana Chawla, the first woman astronaut of Indian origin, flew into space for the last time on this day. On 16 January 2003, Kalpana flew to space on NASA’s Columbia Space Shuttle, but while returning to Earth, the spacecraft crashed on 1 February 2003.
