1. PV Sindhu lost to World No. 1 in the semi-finals

In the Tokyo Olympics, India’s star shuttler PV Sindhu lost to Chinese Taipei’s world number-1 Taiju Ying Neko. In the first game, there was a tough fight between the two, but in the second game, the player of Chinese Taipei won a one-sided victory. In most of the bouts that have happened so far, Taiju has prevailed over Sindhu. Sindhu will now take on Xiao Bing He of China at 5 pm today for the bronze medal.

2. No processing fee till August 31 for taking home loan from SBI
Processing fee will not be required to be paid till August 31 for taking home loan from State Bank of India (SBI). The bank charges around 0.40% of the home loan as processing fee. SBI home loan interest rate starts from 6.70%. CS Shetty, Managing Director (R&DB) of the bank said that we have started the Monsoon Dhamaka offer. This will give a boost to home loan borrowers.

On this day in 1774, the English scientist Joseph Presley discovered dephlogisticated air by burning mercuric oxide. This gas later came to be known as Pranavayu Oxygen. Presley believed that the whole of the air does not help in burning the fire, only a part of it helps in it. Presley heated red mercuric oxide in a closed vessel. The air that came out was collected in another vessel. When he placed a burning thing in this air, it started burning more rapidly. This is how oxygen was discovered.
