Mahant Narendra Giri, president of Akhara Parishad of India in Prayagraj, has died under suspicious circumstances. According to the police, his body was found hanging in the room of Baghambari Gaddi Math in Allapur on Monday. A suicide note was found from the spot, in which he accused disciple Anand Giri and two others of torture. After this, Uttarakhand Police has taken Anand Giri into custody from Haridwar. The police have taken over the monastery.

On 11 August 1947, four days before the end of the British Raj on 15 August, the king of Manipur had acceded to India’s accession, but the state had acquired internal sovereignty. The Manipur State Constitution Act 1947 came into force, giving the state its own separate constitution. Later a merger agreement was signed with the Government of India on 21 September 1949, which came into force on 15 October.
