On this day in 1947, Raja Harisingh signed the Instrument of Accession of Jammu and Kashmir to India. Kashmir was the most embroiled issue between India and Pakistan since the partition of India. Pakistan had an eye on Kashmir from the very beginning. 22 October 1947: Tribals and Pakistanis attacked Kashmir. These tribesmen reached Baramulla. When the pressure increased, Harisingh moved from Srinagar to Jammu on 25 October 1947. The next day they signed the merger papers. The accession treaty on the basis of which Jammu and Kashmir became a part of India was only two pages long.
