More than 8,000 central government employees to be promoted in one go – Henry’s Club

The Center has passed an order affecting over 8,000 promotions in three Central Secretariat cadres in one go, making it one of the largest-scale promotion orders in the central government.

Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh is due to announce the move on Friday, officials said on Thursday.
Sources said that many of these promotions were embroiled in litigation after government employees filed cases against each other.

There are 327 promotions to the post of Directors; 1,097 posts of Deputy Secretary are included in the promotion orders, as well as 1,472 Section Officers, all belonging to the Central Secretariat Service.

The number of officers to be promoted to the Central Secretariat Service is 4,734.

The massive promotion also includes Stenographers, Principal Staff Officers, Clerks and others in Central Secretariat Stenographer Service and Central Secretariat Clerical Service.

The Central Secretariat Service is one of the administrative civil services consisting of Group A and Group B posts, which form the backbone of administrative functions in the Ministries and Departments of the Central Government. They are selected through a competitive examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission.

The last time such massive promotions were announced was in 2019, when 4,000 officers were promoted in these three services.

The promotion also includes 157 Principal Staff Officers and 153 Senior Principal Private Secretaries and 1,208 Principal Private Secretaries in the Central Secretariat Stenographer Service. The total number of officers promoted to the service is 2,966.

Altogether 8,089 posts are up for promotion, out of which 727 are reserved for SC and 207 for ST. There are 5,032 unreserved posts.
