More than 47 lakh affected by Assam floods: 125% more rain than normal, water up to 5-8 feet in 28 districts

The floods have brought havoc in Assam. So far more than 120 people have died. Millions of people became homeless. They have to leave their homes and live hungry and thirsty in relief camps or by putting up tents on the highway. The Assam Disaster Management Authority has said in the flood report released on Monday evening that at present 5424 villages in 32 districts of the state are in the grip of floods. So far 28 districts are in the grip of floods, the lives of 33 lakh people here have been directly affected by the floods. Water is flowing from 5 to 8 feet. Earlier 32 districts were affected, but flood waters have receded in 4 districts.

The Assam government has opened 1425 relief camps for the homeless, where two lakh 31 thousand 819 people have taken shelter.

Assam Police said that a team of Kampur police station in Naugaon district was carrying out rescue on late Sunday night when sub-inspector Samujjal Kakoti and constable Rajiv Bordoloi were washed away in flood waters.

Mother and her two children die in landslide
A woman and her two children were killed in a landslide at Chanbari Rongwe in Sikkim’s Gangtok late on Monday night. The deceased have been identified as Doma Sherpa (27), her 10-year-old son and a seven-month-old child. Doma Sherpa’s husband was in Siliguri, who has been informed about the incident.
