More than 17 lakh vaccinations were done in Tamil Nadu on Sunday

A total of 17,32,277 beneficiaries were vaccinated in Tamil Nadu on Sunday in the 16th Mega Vaccination Camp. Of these, 5,17,126 got the first and 12,14,151 got the second.

A release of the Health Department said that so far 85.71 percent of the population in the state has received the first dose and 57.85 percent has received the second dose.

Meanwhile, 610 new cases of corona virus were reported in the state on Sunday. After 679 people were discharged, the number of active cases stood at 6,629.

10 deaths were recorded and 1,00,284 samples were tested.

171 new cases were reported in Chennai and 89 new cases were reported in Coimbatore.

The total number of omicron cases in the state was 34 (one case cross-notified to Kerala); According to health department data, 12 cases were discharged and 22 were under administration.

As a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of Omicron, 1.15 lakh beds have been kept ready in government and private hospitals. In addition, steps are being taken to create up to 50,000 beds in special centres, the release said.
