British composer Monty Norman, who wrote the theme tunes for James Bond films, has died. He was 94 years old. A statement posted on the Normans’ official website on Monday said: It is sad that we share the news that Monty Norman passed away on 11 July 2022 following a short illness.
Born Monty Nocerovich in 1928 in London’s East End to Jewish parents, Norman got his first guitar at the age of 16. He played in big bands and a variety of duets with comedian Benny Hill before writing songs for early British rockers Cliff Richard. Tommy Steele and has composed for stage music including Make Me an Offer, Expresso Bongo, Songbook and Poppy.
The official Twitter handle of the James Bond films shared an emotional tribute to Norman by sharing an old photo of him with a heartfelt tribute that read: “Today we are saddened to learn of the passing of Monty Norman. Monty created the iconic anthem with the cinematic entrance of the world’s greatest secret agent, 007, and we are forever grateful for his contribution to the franchise. On the tweet, James Bond film franchise producer Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli were signed on.

Norman was cast in the first James Bond film, Dr. was hired to design a theme for No.
He did VS. Naipaul wrote a piece for a proposed musical adaptation of A House for Mr Biswas to switch from sitar to electric guitar. The result is the twingy, propulsive, menacing used in all 25 Bond thrillers.
The producers hired composer John Barry to rearrange the theme, and it was believed that Barry wrote it in concern of Norman. Barry, who died in 2011, composed scores for nearly a dozen Bond films, including Goldfinger and You Only Live Twice.
Norman went to court to claim his authorship, suing the Sunday Times newspaper for defamation over a 1997 article that said the subject matter was composed by Barry. He won in 2001 and was awarded £30,000 in damages.
