Monsoon is one of the widely acclaimed seasons of the year. During this time many people like to channelize their inner eating and end up eating unhealthy food. Consumption of delicious fried things like pakodas is quite common. While it is true that the rainy season is worth enjoying, one should not forget that it is also a time when one is prone to various diseases like typhoid, food poisoning, diarrhea etc.

Apart from that seasonal flu and fever, the spread of waterborne diseases is also quite common during this time. So it is important for us to be extra careful especially during this period.

This season brings a lot of moisture due to which people sweat more than usual and essential salts get exhausted from the body. To maintain the balance, one should increase the intake of healthy beverages like fresh soup, kadha, herbal tea etc.

The body gets enough vitamins and minerals by consuming seasonal fruits.

Vegetables like bottle gourd, pumpkin, bitter gourd, pumpkin etc. are widely available during this time. All of them are rich in dietary fiber and antioxidants which help in keeping the stomach healthy.

Herbs and spices like black pepper, basil, mint, neem should be consumed more as they have anti-inflammatory properties which will help you to keep things like flu etc.

What to avoid:

The growth of fungus on leafy vegetables is likely due to increased humidity and temperature. Therefore it is better that you do not consume these vegetables in season. If you are very fond of such vegetables then make sure you wash them thoroughly and consume them only in cooked form.

The rainy season can have an effect on the digestive system. To avoid this, one should avoid eating oily or fried food.

One of the biggest problems during this season is contamination of the water so one should avoid all seafood including all types of fish as they can be carriers of dangerous diseases.
