Nawab Malik was arrested on February 23 for buying land from Dawood’s sister Haseena Parkar.

The troubles of Nawab Malik, arrested in a money laundering case related to the purchase of land from the henchmen and relatives of fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, are not decreasing. Senior NCP leader and Maharashtra Minority Welfare Minister Nawab Malik had filed a bail plea in the special PMLA court a few days ago, citing his ill health. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has opposed this today. Nawab Malik was arrested on February 23 for buying land from Dawood’s sister Haseena Parkar.

Nawab Malik has been admitted to JJ Hospital in Mumbai this morning following a medical emergency and it has been claimed by his side that his condition is critical. On this, the special court in Mumbai has asked the ED to present his health report in the court and has fixed May 5 for the next date of hearing in the case. Malik’s daughter Nilofar Sameer Khan has also been allowed by the court to meet her father.

Supreme Court did not hear Malik’s petition
Earlier on Friday, the Supreme Court refused to entertain Nawab’s plea, while the PMLA court extended his judicial custody till May 6. Malik had filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the order of the Bombay High Court, under which the High Court had rejected his interim application for immediate release. ED is probing the money laundering case against Malik.

Supreme Court said – apply in the appropriate court
On the bail plea, the Supreme Court said that we will not interfere at this stage of the investigation. In such a situation, you should file a bail application in the appropriate court. While seeking his release, Malik had said that the PMLA Act is of 2005. But he was arrested for the transaction in 1999.

ED has filed charge sheet
The ED had on April 28 filed a chargesheet against NCP leader Nawab Malik in the money laundering case involving fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. The case pertains to misappropriation of money in the purchase of Malik’s underworld connections and properties attached to it. ED’s lawyers had said during this time that more than 5,000 pages of chargesheet have been filed in the court’s registry. The Special Court for Prevention of Money Laundering Act cases will take cognizance of the charge sheet after verification of documents.
