Lewis Hamilton said he is looking forward to rain and a turn of luck at Sunday’s Monaco Grand Prix after qualifying eighth for Mercedes.

The seven-time champion admitted he had little hope of claiming or winning pole after seeing local hero Charles Leclerc in a position ahead of his Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz.
“Yes, I want it to rain,” he said, as dark clouds gathered over the Mediterranean principality, where the microclimate could be like his new-age Mercedes car.
“If it rains, it would be a little better if I was just driving in eighth place in a drought.
“I was seventh here last year and I just drove in seventh. It’s very difficult to overtake here so I’m hoping the weather plays out and creates opportunities.
“Many people employ different strategies and it would be nice to have some luck for once.”
His Mercedes teammate George Russell finished sixth.
