moitra: Goa: Declare Bondvol lake as protected zone, says Mahua Moitra | Goa News – Times of India

PANAJI: The state government needs to declare all water bodiessuch as the Bondvol lakeas protected zones and must take steps to repair broken embankments, said TMC’s Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra, Supporting the agitation against construction around the lake, Moitra said that TMC will ensure that no construction activity is carried out around protected water bodies.
TMC has accused St Cruz MLA Antonio Fernandes of supporting builders and tenants who have started construction activities within 200m of the lake and up to the lake’s high tide line.
“The Bondvol lake is the ecological balance of the area and over the last few years, certain people of the area connected to the local MLA and the local panchayat have been claiming the lake as their tenancy,” said Moitra, who visited the lake along with local activist Arthuro D’Souza.
“The tenants are grabbing land. They are claiming tenancy over the entire lake, which is more than 90,000 sqm, even though they were declared as tenants over just 550 sqm,” D’Souza said, adding that Fernandes has been supporting tenants and builders to usurp the entire lake.
“If tenancy rights have been granted for just 550 sqm, if we form the government we will say that nobody can claim tenancy over the water body. Secondly, any licenses granted within the 200m zone will be cancelled,” Moitra said.
